Start with the date
An announcement and an effective rule are not interchangeable.
A first-party notice dated 3 September 2026 described upcoming cloud-gaming changes. Microsoft’s current Game Pass page is the better source for today’s plan and catalog terms. Where the two do not establish the same effective date or scope, this guide says so instead of assuming. Source ↗ Source ↗
01 / Policy timeline
- Before 3 September 2026 · prior/current documentation. Archive the exact plan and region view before comparing.
- 3 September 2026 · announced. Store the notice scope, affected plans, regions, devices and stated timing.
- Effective implementation · unverified here. Recheck an applicable account/region and later official documentation; do not backfill the announcement date as the start date.
- Consequences · unknown until observed. Separate streaming eligibility from local purchase/download rights.
What to do now
Use the official pages for your own plan and region, then name the evidence date. The Change Ledger stores the material event; Promises and Outcomes stores whether the documented change was later delivered, narrowed, delayed, reversed or remains unknown.
Claims separate documented facts from interpretation and uncertainty. Read our method.
