Completed event, conditional consequences
The Xbox 360 Store closed on 29 July 2024; retained access depends on the activity.
The 2023 notice distinguished buying new games and entertainment content from redownloading games already purchased. It also said backward-compatible Xbox 360 and Original Xbox titles would remain purchasable through later Xbox storefronts where offered. Source ↗
01 / Before-and-after activity table
| Activity | Closure effect | Separate dependency |
|---|---|---|
| Buy through the Xbox 360 Store | Ended | Some compatible titles may have another current storefront route. |
| Redownload a prior purchase | Documented as retained | Account entitlement and service availability still matter. |
| Use a compatible disc | Not identical to store purchase | Exact title/edition compatibility and disc validation apply. |
| Use multiplayer or a game server | Not decided by the store closure alone | The game publisher’s service status controls this. |
Your next check
For a game you already have, use the compatibility checklist. For later access changes, use Access Watch. If a publisher server has closed, label that as a server shutdown—not as the Xbox 360 Store closure.
